In this ongoing art program we will take a look at work by the "Great Masters" of the art world and work on a variety of projects as we study their styles and influences. We will be inspired by a new artist every month and will include such names as Van Gogh, da Vinci, Cezanne, Picasso, Michelangelo, Lautrec, Dali, Modigliani, Wyeth, Matisse, Seurat, Klimt, and Rockwell. Each week we will have a new art project that coincides with our monthly influencer (Great Master), and learners will focus on a singular technique or element of the artist's work or style. Learners who choose to participate for an entire month, for example, will have explored three different areas of one artist's work. Learners will be introduced to the material with discussion, videos, and live demonstrations. We will explore one or more techniques at a time, but these techniques can and will be revisited throughout the month and beyond. Learners will be encouraged to experiment with their drawing and art and our focus will not be on a finished product but rather the steps needed to complete the work (though we will aim to complete in class when possible). Igniting the spark of influence and inspiration, while exploring a variety of art fundamentals and techniques, by examining some of art history's biggest names will be the overarching goal of this ongoing study. Upcoming sessions: January - Henri Matisse (11th= Painting with Scissors, 18th = Wax Resist, 25th = Still Life) Feb- Modigliani (TBD = Portraits in his style, TBD= Around Town, TBD = Concept of Colour) April - Pierre-Auguste Renoir ( TBD = Master Study , TBD = On a Boat , TBD = Let's have Lunch ) May - MC Escher ( 10 = Reflections of Self, 17 = Breaking Perspective, 24= It's an Illusion ) June - Van Gogh ( 7 = In My Room, 14 = The Night Sky, 21 = My POV ) July - Norman Rockwell ( 12 = Life Moments , 19 = Expressive Expressions, 26 = My Family ) August - Emily Carr ( 9 = Inside the Forest, 16= Atop the Trees 23= meaning in movement, 30 = passion and understanding) September - Leonardo DaVinci ( 14= Journaling Inspiration, 21 = Portrait and Symmetry ,28 = Understanding Illustrated )

Parental Guidance
In exploring art history in general, this classroom will make reference to texts and collections curated by "Art in Focus" by Konemann and as such some artistic nude drawings or sculptures may be referenced in the classroom.
While some of the great masters represent biblical subject matter, the subject matter of their work will not be a point of discussion in this classroom. As a classroom we may discuss the art work and the inspiration or environment for which it was created, but our focus will be on the art, the artist, and their techniques and style.
Parents are welcome to message me with any questions prior to signing up a learner.

In this classroom we are co-learners and we explore the course material together. " - Sharon Ross
