Who do you think should be on a quarter? You’ll learn about 5 incredible women in this engaging course including Dr. Sally Ride and Anna May Wong. Plus, you get to share who 𝙮𝙤𝙪 think should be on the next women’s quarter. According to the U.S. Mint website, "The American Women Quarters Program is a four-year program that celebrates the accomplishments and contributions made by women to the development and history of our country." During the current year, 2022, five remarkable women will be...
Students will have a basic understanding of the American Mint. Students will have a basic understanding of the study of "numismatics." Students will apply what they learn about the selection process of each woman to the women presented in the subsequent classes. Students will evaluate the final selections of the 2022 coins to determine if these selections were appropriate and why or why not. Students will create a quarter showcasing their new understanding of "The American Women Quarters Program."
Students will be expected to design a quarter based on what they learn during the first three classes. These creations will be shared in the fourth and final class of the series.
I will assess the students' understanding of the class material through their coin creation as well as an objective 10-question test. I will send each student a letter grade (A, B, C,...) based on these two factors. Students will receive their grades within 48 hours of the completion of Class #4. If the parent would prefer that the teacher not send a grade, please simply communicate that prior to Class #4.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will use the following source during class: https://www.usmint.gov/ Your child will not need to register for an account; however, if your child wants to learn more, order items from the US Mint, or receive newsletters and publications, they may choose to register.
