Math and number manipulation are foundational skills necessary, not only for success in school, but to live a successful life. Math is EVERYWHERE!! It is my desire to cheer your student on, allow them to make mistakes, learn from them and build their confidence that they can actually DO math! In this class we will focus on the basics of number manipulation. The goal is for the learner to confidently complete all of the basic computations necessary to lead up to fractions, decimals, percentages and on into pre-algebra. This class will focus on: • Session 1 – Place value, Rounding Numbers and Adding and Subtracting • Session 2 – Multiplication and Division • Session 3 – Checking your work • Session 4 – Roman Numerals • Session 5 – Divisibility Rules • Session 6 – Factoring, Prime and Composite Numbers • Session 7 – Prime Factoring and Factor Trees • Session 8 – Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple • Session 9 – Exponents and Square Roots In case you are looking for an all-inclusive basic math course for your homeschooler, I have laid out a plan for your student to be able to do just that. By taking the sections I offer here on Outschool in the following order, your student will cover all of the course concepts for Basic Mathematics, which is typically taught the 7th grade year. • Whole Number Mastery • Fraction Domination • Dominating Decimals • Power over Percentages • Measure It! • Grasping the Ins and Outs of Graphs • Finances and Math in Daily Life • Ins and Outs of Integers • ABCs and Math – Part 1 • ABCs and Math – Part 2 • Plane Geometry Fun • Solidifying Our Understanding of Solid Geometry
Learning Goals
Students will increase their confidence level in basic computations using whole numbers. This includes functions (addition, subtracting, multiplying and dividing) factoring and understanding exponents and square roots.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As my husband and I began the journey of adopting our two children, we soon learned how far behind they were in math. I have been fortunate to be able to assist them in catching up and have learned the value of being their cheerleader when they truly saw no way they would be able to grasp what they were working on. Mistakes are important in the learning process, especially in math. For a student to be able to track down their mistake and fix it solidifies the neural pathways in their brain to learn the concept. I have taught middle grades math for 3 years now and this is my philosophy in my classroom. Mistakes are opportunities to learn, never a reason to condemn. I would love to be your child's cheerleader as they gain confidence and learn these basic math skills.
