Class Experience

Where in Asia can you visit an elephant sanctuary, climb Mount Everest, or visit the snow monkeys? Join me on an interactive scavenger hunt around Asia! As a continuation of my "Where in the World" class series, young learners will have the opportunity to explore the Asian continent while searching for different country specific items. During our virtual field trip, learners will go on a make believe airplane ride to six different Asian countries. Through a multimedia presentation that includes maps, photos, and videos we will experience:

-Climbing the world's tallest building in Dubai, U.A.E.
-Going on a safari to find a tiger in India
          -Hiking Mount Everest in Nepal
-Walking along the Great Wall of China
-A visit to an elephant sanctuary in Thailand
-An excursion to see the snow monkeys in Japan

We will also learn how to say a greeting in each country and identify the first letter of each country. Our journey around Asia will be very interactive and full of movement and activities to keep young children engaged!

Each learner will be provided with two printable handouts prior to the class. The first handout will contain six pictures of items to look for as we explore each country. Children will be encouraged to keep their eyes open for the items on the printable, and they can circle each item as we find it. The second handout will contain the names of the countries we will visit, with a space to match each country specific item. After class is over, students may glue the scavenger hunt pictures to the country where we found them.

Let’s go on an adventure! I can’t wait to explore Asia with your tiny traveler!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Kelly Baker and I live in Raleigh, North Carolina. I am a mother to 3 young children ( ages 9, 6, and 4), and I am a current first grade teacher at a local private school. I also have over 5 years of experience teaching online! I taught for Outschool for 2 years, and loved it, but made the decision to step back last fall when I accepted my current position as a first grade teacher. However, I have missed my online friends and am excited to reenter this space! While I will not have the same extensive availability as I have had in the past, I am super excited to reconnect with some old friends and meet new friends!

I graduated from Clemson University with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Spanish. I am also currently pursuing my Masters of Arts in Teaching at NC State University in Elementary Education and expect to graduate next December (2024). I love working with children, and I have taught in preschools, elementary schools, and private settings. I spent several years teaching ESL online to children in China, which has given me the tools needed to create meaningful and interactive online learning experiences.

I have a passion for travel and learning about different cultures! I have personally traveled to 20 different countries, including 5 different continents, and I have seen how people live all over the world. My goal is to broaden the world view of young learners by taking them on virtual adventures around the world! I believe that children learn the best through play and natural discovery. My classes will always be high energy, interactive, include lots of movement and fun, while still containing meaningful content. My goal is to ignite your child’s natural curiosity and allow them to discover our great big, amazing world!!

Let’s go on an adventure! I hope to see you in the classroom!
