Using an Outline to Write an Engaging Paragraph: My Dog-The IEW Way (Ages 10-12)

Students will learn the basics to write a great paragraph. We will start with a pre-written outline to write a paragraph. Every great paragraph has a topic sentence, strong details, and a conclusion sentence. Descriptive and engaging writing requires strong verbs, vivid adjectives, and expressive adverbs. We will use a list of strong vocabulary to add enticing details. Students will collaborate together to use the details to create sentences and write the paragraph. By the end of class, the learners will have created a piece of writing that will be easy to follow, full of substance, and enjoyable to read. Students may choose to revise, edit, and rewrite the paragraph into a final copy after class. This is a stand-alone class. However, I also offer a 1-day class that focuses creating the outline we will use in this class.
