Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! My name is Ms. Laura, and I am thrilled to be in the Outschool community as a science teacher, specializing in biology, chemistry, and physics. In addition to my love for the sciences, I am also passionate about crafting, art, and teaching life skills. I believe that education extends beyond the boundaries of the classroom, and by incorporating hands-on activities, creativity, and practical life skills, I strive to provide a holistic learning experience for my students.

With a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, I have a solid foundation in the subject matter that allows me to delve deep into the intricacies of life sciences. My research experience has further fueled my enthusiasm for the scientific method and instilled in me a sense of curiosity that I aim to pass on to my students. I believe in fostering a growth mindset and encouraging students to ask questions, think critically, and develop their own hypotheses.

Apart from my academic pursuits, I have a diverse background in teaching life skills to children aged 3 to 14. I firmly believe that education should equip students with essential life skills that empower them to thrive both academically and personally. Through interactive activities and real-life examples, I aim to help my students develop problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and a sense of responsibility towards themselves and their communities.

My teaching philosophy revolves around creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued and respected. I strive to recognize and nurture each student's unique strengths and learning styles, tailoring my lessons to accommodate their individual needs. By fostering a collaborative and engaging atmosphere, I aim to ignite a lifelong love for learning within my students.

In my classroom, you can expect a mix of hands-on experiments, interactive discussions, and creative projects. I believe in fostering a sense of wonder and awe in the sciences by connecting abstract concepts to real-world applications. By incorporating crafting and practical life skills into my lessons, I hope to make learning a fun and interactive experience that extends beyond textbooks.

In addition to my professional endeavors, I am also a proud mom of two wonderful children. They constantly remind me of the importance of nurturing young minds and the joys of discovery. Being a parent has deepened my understanding of the unique challenges and joys that come with guiding and inspiring young learners.

During my free time, I enjoy engaging in various activities that fuel my passions and bring balance to my life. You can often find me out running or hiking, immersing myself in the beauty of nature while staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Writing is another creative outlet that allows me to express my thoughts and reflections, while reading broadens my horizons and keeps me intellectually stimulated.

Crafting is not only a passion of mine, but it also ties into my teaching philosophy. I firmly believe in the power of hands-on activities and the joy that comes from creating something with one's own hands. Whether it's knitting, painting, or experimenting with different crafts, I find immense satisfaction in the creative process.

At home, my family and I are proud owners of a small flock of chickens. Caring for these feathered friends has taught us valuable lessons about responsibility, compassion, and the interconnectedness of life. We are eagerly looking forward to expanding our home with a dog in the near future, as we believe in the positive impact that animals can have on our lives and the lessons they can teach us about empathy and companionship.

These personal experiences and interests enrich my teaching approach, as they provide me with a deeper understanding of the diverse perspectives and interests that students bring into the classroom. By incorporating elements of nature, creativity, and responsibility into my lessons, I hope to create a vibrant and nurturing environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

I am genuinely excited to embark on this educational journey with my students and to share my passion for science, crafting, and life skills. Together, we will explore the wonders of the natural world, develop critical thinking skills, and cultivate a love for lifelong learning.
