The Survival Challenge: Put Your Survival Skills to the Test!
Chris Hatch (M.Ed)
This ongoing course will put your student's survival knowledge to the test while giving them the opportunity to learn new survival skills!
In this ongoing course your scholar will learn survival skills and immediately put them to the test through interactive role playing game play. Knowing the skills needed to survive in the wild can not only save your life but give you peace of mind. As an educator with a Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction I strongly believe that students need to apply knowledge learned to truly understand and remember it. That is why a majority of our time in class will be spent applying...
Throughout our role-playing game, students will imagine themselves in dangerous scenarios. For example, students will encounter a grizzly bear at one point in the adventure and decide what steps they should take to best overcome the situation. Students will decide what they do, they may choose to run, play dead, scare the bear away, etc. There will never be violent images or videos in this class but through discussion students may be tempted to suggest violent actions in order to survive. I will always preface these situations with the warning that violence is never the first choice we make in a survivalists encounter. This class is appropriate for ages 8 and up. Conversation on the three things needed to start a fire will come up (Fuel, Heat, Oxygen). We will not actually start any fires.
