Use promo code CHRISTACHEFIRSTCLASS22 for a FREE FIRST CLASS! This class is for students who have taken a few drawing classes or who have been practising on their own for a few years and want to challenge themselves and take their skills to the next level. We will tackle a topic each week and do exercises and put new techniques into practise. Some of this stuff will be challenging and even frustrating at times- but I will go step by step, answer any and all questions and help you to overcome your frustrations so you can seriously level up your art skills. I teach in a friendly and supportive way and will never put students down or criticize them harshly. My goal it to take complicated topics and make them understandable, while making students feel confident in their growing skills. A lot of the class will focus on creating strong fundamentals, which means solid 3D construction drawing, being able to move cubes cylinders and spheres around in 3D space. We will break down the human figure into simplified construction shapes, and do deep dives into various parts of the body such as heads, eyes, noses, mouths, ears, hands and feet. We will also dive into topics such as perspective, colour theory, and composition. This is an 'ongoing' style class, so students can join and leave the class any time, however sticking with it for a few months will really show huge results in your drawing improvement.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
We won't be drawing anything scary or violent. We will be drawing the human body but will not use nude models, or add anatomical details like private parts. Many of the constructions of characters begin by drawing a character 'in their underwear' and then we build clothing and prop details on top of that. None of the poses will be suggestive or sexualized and the examples used will mostly be from media the students are aware of already, video games , anime, movies characters and comic books.
Supply List
Pencil Eraser Pencil Sharpener Black inking pen (thick markers like sharpies are good, but also brush pens and fine liners can be useful as well) Colored Pencils If students want to draw digitally on an ipad or tablet that is totally fine as long as they have a drawing stylus and familiarity with the software they are using.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional illustrator who has been teaching art, drawing and cartooning classes to children of all ages and levels for over 10 years. I teach in a friendly, supportive way, while imparting the 'real deal' drawing fundamentals skills that I wish I was taught at a younger age. I'm always open to student questions, comments and feedback, and love nothing more than seeing the artwork my students create and the joy they get from improving their skills.
