If you love drawing characters from Anime and Manga series this class is for you! Each week we will take a subject from a popular anime and use it to learn solid fundamental skills to draw the figures.

Topics will include, drawing heads from various angles, drawing anime style facial expressions, drawing anime hair styles, constructive anatomy for anime characters, dynamic figure posing, costuming and detail.

We will draw from a variety of anime styles and genres, and use characters and shows that the students may be familiar with.

Each week we will do a drawing from start to finish and there will be time at the end to share our artwork with the class. If students don't feel like sharing their artwork there is no pressure to do so.

this class is at an intermediate level and some experience drawing is helpful. No tricks or gimmicks- just solid drawing fundamentals. We will be using things like construction lines and simplified anatomy, starting with big shapes and finishing with details, inking and coloring.

Some weeks if the drawing is more complex we wont have time to finish fully coloring the image during class time. Students are encouraged to finish up their drawings on their own time and not try to rush to finish by the end of class.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
We will be pulling from a variety of anime sources, some rated for kids and some for teens- but the images we will draw will never have blood or gore or inappropriate poses/outfits/themes for the age range of the students in the class.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional illustrator who has also been teaching in-person drawing classes for kids of all ages for the past 10 years. I joined Outschool in early 2023 and love teaching students all over the world. I teach a construction method of drawing that starts with simple shapes first and progresses to details, inking and colouring. We don't cut corners or rely on gimmicks or tricks. These are the real-deal drawing skills that I wish I was taught when I was young. I have a lot of experience working with students on the autism spectrum, and with ADHD and dyslexia and find that drawing and making art together through a shared interest is a great way to connect and bond and practice social skills.
