We will be reading and discussing "The Odyssey" by Homer that is translated by Emily Wilson. This book talks about the journey of the character Odysseus, King of Ithaca in Greek Mythology. We will read Odysseus's long journey home after the 10 year Trojan vs. Greek war. This book is after the book "The Iliad" (which talks about the infamous Trojan war and what led to it) which is also by Homer. The book contains many other characters that are in many of the myths/stories in Greek...
Students will learn about Greek Mythology, improve their reading comprehension, learn about history, and geography.
I have my Bachelors degree in Arts & a Bachelors degree in Science. I took Greek mythology in college, have been studying Greek mythology, and I am a huge fan of Greek mythology. I have experience teaching this topic on Outschool as well as to High school students. Please note, there is some violence in Greek Mythology that is in ALL of Greek mythology.
Every week students will be required to read about 65 pages from the book. They will be assigned questions and be expected to come to class prepared. The homework will take about 2-4 hours per week.

Learners progress is assessed by their participation and answers in class.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This book is kind of mature. There is some violence and graphic scenes in parts of the book but keep in mind this is seen in ALL of Greek mythology (except for children books that make it kid friendly for younger kids). There also are a few inappropriate words but very few in the entire book.
