This class is taught in English.
Students will enhance their understanding of grammar, cultivate an appreciation for writer's craft, and ultimately become better writers themselves.
Homework Offered
(Optional) Students can always complete one or more of the extension activities for homework. Extension Activities: - (Discover a Sentence) Look through another book you have for a sentence that has a similar trait or grammar rule to today’s mentor sentence that you analyzed during Sentence Stalking. Record the sentence and explain what the sentence has in common with today’s mentor sentence. - (Create a Sentence) Pick out and write down two-three things that the author did in the mentor sentence from today’s Sentence Stalking. Next, write a sentence of your own that contains these elements. - (Ask a Question) Study today’s mentor sentence that you analyzed during Sentence Stalking. What is one question that could have been asked about this sentence but wasn’t asked? Write the question and the answer to your question down. - (If I Were the Author...) Write down one way the author could have changed the sentence to strengthen it. What would the new sentence look like with your suggestion?0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
