In this 4-day course, your learner will learn how, but more importantly WHY we regroup with subtraction. This is a fun, high-energy course with hands-on manipulatives that will have your child truly understanding how to subtract large #s.
Class experience
US Grade 1 - 4
This class will begin teaching with hands-on manipulatives and move to the abstract writing with paper and pencil as the week progresses. Learners will be sent printable manipulatives that they will prepare before the first class. During class one, students will learn how to use base ten blocks and how they relate to the place value system. We will begin using these base ten blocks to do basic subtraction without regrouping until the learners full understand this concept using the...
Students will gain a deep understanding of subtraction with regrouping.
I am PASSIONATE about teaching children WHY we do what we do in math. Children growing up in the 80s and 90s were told "you do this and then this to get the answer and you don't ask why." Children NEED to understand the WHY. I have spent 14 years helping children think critically about math concepts and figuring out their own methods for solving problems.
