During each class, I will read a children's book (listed below) while engaging the students with comprehension questions, interactions, predictions, and movement to develop their vocabulary and understanding of the story. When finished, we will play games and do crafts as described below. March Week 1 - "If I had a sheep" by Mick Inkpen: We will learn about numbers and animal characteristics. Week 2 - "Horses and Ponies" by Shelagh Canning: In this class we will be making shapes, so bring some Legos, craft sticks, or blocks to class today. Week 3 - "Apple Trouble" by Ragnhild Scamell: We will practice story sequencing. Week 4 - "Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type" by Doreen Cronin: In this class, we will practice sentence order and sentence formation. Week 5 - ”We Love the Dirt” by Tony Johnston: In this class, we will learn about what is in dirt. April Week 1 - “Apron Annie in the Garden” by Joellyn Thrall Cicciarelli: In this class we will learn about living and nonliving things. Week 2 - “The Carrot Seed” by Ruth Krouss: We will learn about carrots and rabbits. Week 3 - “I’m a Seed” by Jean Marzollo: We will learn about what plants need to grow. Week 4 - “Hurry! Hurry!” by Eve Bunting: We will learn about baby chicks. Week 5 - “Ice-Cream Cows and Mitten Sheep” by Jane Belk Moncure: We will learn about what foods come from different animals like cows, chickens, and sheep. May Week 1 - “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle: Let's learn about caterpillars. Week 2 - “Scoot!” by Cathryn Falwell: We will learn about how animals move. Week 3 - “I’m a Caterpillar” by Jean Marzollo: Let's learn about butterflies. Week 4 - “What Do you Do When Something Wants To Eat You?” by Steve Jenkins: We will talk about what animals eat. June Week 1 - ”Dandelions” by Mia Posada Make a wish and learn all about how sees move through the air! Week 2 – ”Chickens on the Farm” by Jennifer McGillvray What do chickens do? They scratch, they peak, and the lay yummy eggs! Week 3 – “When Summer Comes” by Robert Maass Today is the first day of Summer! What does that mean? Week 4 – “Spots Feathers and Curly Tails!” by Nancy Tafuri Let’s learn about animal characteristics! July Week 1 – "Why A Dog? by A. Cat" As told to: Robinn Michal Koontz Week 2 – ”Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?” by Dr. Seuss Listen? What do you hear? Let’s learn about sounds on the farm! Week 3 – “The Grouchy Lady Bug” by Eric Carle Come learn about how lady bugs! Week 4 – “The Popcorn Shop” by Alice Low Pop! Pop! Pop! Do you like popcorn? Where does it come from?

When needed, I will provide a materials list and directions for each of the activities and crafts before we begin in class.

I believe reading books to children is an important way to develop their thoughts, vocabulary, sentence development, and future reading, writing, and math skills. I have been using this technique for many years to help children see how fun and enjoy books and learning can be!
