A "Sticky Social Situation" is a situation that you don't know how to handle, like peer pressure or when someone is treating you unfairly. Students will spend the first part of this class creating a puppet out of any materials they choose. In the second half hour of this class, students will be presented with difficult, or "sticky" social situations and will be encouraged to offer solutions using their puppets. Many times, children feel safer practicing awkward or difficult situations with puppets or dolls. Instructor guidance will solidify appropriate responses. Situations will include: -A friend doesn't want to play with you -A stranger tries to talk to you (with and without adult present) -gossip -apologizing -sharing feelings -sibling squabbles -student suggested situations
Learning Goals
Students will gain confidence during this class that will allow them to have tools and strategies to help them in "Sticky" Social Situations with friends, classmates, strangers and family.
