STEAM for children: Science means making observations, investigating, making predictions, and experimentation. Technology is using simple things like play dough and rulers as tools, and making and building with the materials we have. Engineering refers to recognizing problems and testing solutions to solve them. Art encourages our creativity and expression and builds our imagination and confidence. Math incorporates number sense and math operations, but also patterns and shapes, and sorting and classifying. In this fun, interactive, and hands-on class we will listen to fantastic stories and then complete a STEAM project based on the story: We will read the sweet story of "The Lion and the Little Red Bird" and make paintbrushes from found objects like pompoms and cardboard tubes and bubble wrap and yarn, and then paint together. We'll design and make cool animals after we read "What Do You Do With a Tail Like This?" and find out about the special parts that make up animals. We will design and build our own dream cars after we read "If I Built a Car" together. We can use cardboard boxes, egg cartons, plastic bottles, construction paper, lids, straws, whatever we like! After we read "The Little Red Fort" we can build our own amazing forts with things like cardboard boxes, popsicle sticks, clay, and construction paper. Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope I see you in class soon!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Concordia University
“Teachers have three loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the first two loves together.” Learning should be fun and exciting for all children. I want to ensure that children have all the skills to enjoy learning, to continue their natural curiosity and creativity, and to feel confident to explore their interests and express their ideas. I have a master’s of education in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in reading and a bachelor’s degree in education and psychology. I was lucky enough to homeschool my three wonderful children from kindergarten until they went to college. I’ve taught in private schools, tutorials, and I’ve been a reading interventionist, and preschool director. Most recently I’ve been tutoring and teaching classes online and working as a vision therapist. I’m truly passionate about teaching and learning and I hope I can share that with children all over the world here on Outschool.
