Mission Control needs your help solve multiplication expressions and bring our astronaut home safe. Students will journey through the solar system in six steps as they are introduced to the concept of groups and the parts of a multiplication expression. This course offering will cover the very basic introduction to common core multiplication and utilize the draw a picture skill strategy to solve equations. My class offers a welcoming non attribution environment for learners of all backgrounds. Students will be called on to answer questions, and asked to draw and share models of expressions. Experience with skip counting is helpful but not necessary for this lesson.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the concept and importance of groups in performing multiplication. They will also learn the proper way to write a multiplication expression and the significance of number placement in an expression. Students will be familiar with the draw a picture strategy after this class and will be able to apply it to multiplication expressions.
