Snowflakes and Science: A Winter Themed Science Class

Come walk in a scientific winter wonderland! In this one time class, we will celebrate this enchanting season by exploring a variety of magical science experiments. Learners will be encouraged to discover the science behind each experiment through observation, inquiry-based questioning, and natural discovery. This class is taught in English.
Learners will need the following supplies: - 2 sheets of white construction paper or cardstock - wax crayons in a few different colours including black, white, blue and orange - a white crayon - watercolor paints in a few different colours - a cup to hold water - a clear cup or jar - water - a paintbrush - a pencil - a small spray bottle - three to six drops of blue food coloring - a small bowl - two large bowls - a plate - at least eight ice cubes - a piece of string (around six to seven inches) - 2 spoons - regular table salt (around three tablespoons) - vegetable shortening such as Crisco - two plastic bags such as Ziploc bags - a roll of tape - one cup of shaving cream - one cup of baking soda - measuring cups - an eye dropper - vinegar (around three tablespoons) - 3/4 of a glass of baby oil - white paint (one teaspoon) - at least two tablets of alka seltzer - optional: snowman decorating supplies such as buttons, googly eyes, sticks, baby carrots, etc. - optional: a small amount of glitter
Parents may wish to supervise to ensure that the experiments do not get too messy.
