In this class, students will learn how to construct their own characters by focusing on simple shapes, which form the foundation for more detailed designs. We'll cover topics like how shape, proportion, and gesture work together to give characters personality, and how to make characters feel dynamic and expressive. While the class subject matter may change from week to week (one week we may be drawing Pig Professors and another may have us drawing Super Hero Swans or Refrigerator Robots) our class format will remain the same. The class is structured to break down character creation into easy-to-understand steps, allowing students to progressively build confidence in their drawing. We'll start with a warm-up sketching session, followed by a guided demonstration where I walk students through designing their character. I encourage students to ask questions and share ideas throughout the class to keep things interactive. My teaching style is a mix of guided instruction and creative exploration, where I provide the tools and techniques, but the students are free to experiment and develop their own characters. There will be plenty of discussion and interaction, as I believe learning happens best when students are actively engaged. I'll give live feedback during the class to ensure everyone feels supported in their progress. This class does not involve the use of trademarked materials, as students will create original characters from their imagination. It’s a great space for budding artists who want to develop their skills with a balance of structure and creativity.
