Class Experience

In this SMALL ongoing class, students will improve their sentence writing by learning sentence structure and spelling concepts. Depending on age or grade level, students may be working on spelling phonetically correct only. I am an experienced teacher and will continue to look for signs of students being ready to learn correct spelling concepts, such as -ea, -ee, -ing endings, etc.

We will begin class with a writing and spelling warm-up. We will work on word segmentation. Students will practice hearing and writing the sounds they hear to form a complete word. I use the Science of Reading research in all my academic classes. I use orthographic mapping and sound tiles to break down words for easy spelling. This strategy is from the Science of Reading, which is proven to be THE way learners learn to read. We are using the strategies to build strong writers as well.

Next, the class will write a sentence together focusing on capitalization, small and tall letters, spacing, and punctuation.

Finally, we will finish the class by hearing a short introduction to a fun scenario we will be writing about. Students will have some time to brainstorm and discuss how they will respond in writing. I will assist students as needed during this time. Students may not finish the final writing during class, but are encouraged to continue working on it after class. Of course, finishing outside of class is always optional and never mandatory.

**Please note that this class is NOT for learning letter sounds and letter formation. Students coming to this class should have a solid foundation of letter sounds and how to write them. We may review how to write lowercase letters as needed, but overall this class will be for the students who may already know how to write CVC and other small words.

👉🏼CLASSROOM POLICIES:
-Please try to be on time. In the case of a screen sharing class, it may be difficult to help late students if they need.
-Be sure students have on shirts and bottoms (if it is a dancing/moving class).
-I don’t always mute students, but I will if the background is too noisy. Please be sure your student knows how to unmute when it is time.

👉🏼PARENTS/CARETAKERS:
Please be sure to stay off camera as much as possible for the comfort and safety of all learners.

👉🏼SIBLINGS:
I can accommodate for siblings if the class is age appropriate by opening another slot, upon request. If the sibling is not enrolled in the class, please be sure they are not seen on camera. If more than one sibling is enrolled, they may share 1 device.

👉🏼REFUNDS:
I do not often offer refunds for missed classes (unless I miss). Outschool uploads our class video after every class and students will be able to view the class later. If you must miss an ongoing class you can choose to unenroll by Sunday morning to avoid payment, but the spot may or may not be filled when ready to re-enroll. Otherwise, you can refer to the video.

👉🏼FEEDBACK:
I am working on building a set of classes that are fun, engaging, and meaningful. Please message me with how I can make my classes better if you are willing. I ask that problems come to me first to see if I can solve them. I am a very caring and passionate teacher and I just ask for a chance to offer satisfaction.

HAVE FUN!
