Join me on an exciting 8-week journey into the world of coding with Scratch, a paced introduction to programming for children aged 8-11! This course is designed to spark creativity, build problem-solving skills, and level up your coding.

Beginner Level
What will be taught?
Students will learn the basics of block-based programming using Scratch, focusing on creativity, problem-solving, and building interactive projects like games, animations, and stories.

Topics covered
Topics include Scratch interface navigation, motion and events, loops, conditionals, variables, animations, sound effects, and project design.

Class structure
The class is structured into 8 weekly lessons, each beginning with an introduction to new concepts, hands-on guided activities, and a creative project.

Teaching Approach
I’ll use interactive demonstrations, collaborative coding exercises, and step-by-step instructions to ensure students understand and apply each concept effectively.
My teaching style is engaging, supportive, and student-centered, encouraging exploration and creativity while fostering a growth mindset.

Learner Interaction
Learners will interact through live discussions, guided project work, Q&A sessions, and feedback on their Scratch creations.

Lesson 1:
Navigating Scratch and Simple Animations
 Dive into the world of Scratch! Learn to navigate the interface, use basic blocks, and bring your sprites to life with simple animations. Create your first project and get ready to code!

Moving and Interacting
 Make your sprites move and talk! Use motion blocks to create smooth movements and interactions between sprites. Build fun, interactive actions to explore creativity.

Animating Sprites
 Let’s make your sprites dance! Learn to use costumes and loops for smooth animations. Add movements to make your projects truly come alive.

Supply List
2 devices would be useful, 1 for the class and one to interact with Scratch. If this is not possible this is not an issue.

I hold certifications as an Apple Teacher, in Python Essentials, AI, Cybersecurity, and Cyber-Ops, along with a bachelor’s degree in computing, a master’s in education, and a PGCE.

My international teaching experience spans IB curriculum schools following American Core Standards, and years in the British system, where I was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2020. I specialize in hands-on, project-based learning that inspires curiosity, creativity, and confidence.

From Python and Scratch to app development in Java, I design courses like Money Smarts for Kids and Math Meets Coding to blend real-world skills with fun, engaging activities. Inspired by my children, I also run a global coding club for girls, empowering young learners to explore technology.
