What's included
Homework
In addition to watching and responding to the instructional videos, each class will have some sort of homework opportunity for further learning. I will post 2-5 options, and students may choose the assignment that interests them the most. Once their assignment is complete, they should share about it in the classroom. Homework should take less than 30m a week to complete and may include further reading, simple experiments, continued observations, or another relevant option.Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Do you have a child who loves chemistry? This class is a semester-long survey of beginning science concepts in chemistry and includes all of the chemistry material from my Science Foundations classes. Students are not required to have any prior scientific experience. Schedule: Week 1 - Solids, Liquids, and Gasses --All material in our world is made up of matter and can be classified as solid, liquid, or gas. Week 2 - A Special Look at Air --We will look specifically at air and prove that it IS matter even though we can't see it. Week 3 - Particulate Nature of Matter --Matter is composed of particles. How particles are structured in solid, liquid, gas. Week 4 - Materials and their Properties --The properties of various types of solid matter. Week 5 - Magnets --Magnets and their properties. Week 6 - Air Pressure --Air and the Earth's atmosphere. Week 7 - A Deeper Look at Air --The mixture of gases that make up air. Week 8 - Evaporation and Condensation --Changes in water particles and the basis for water cycle. Week 9 - Dissolving, Solutions, and Crystallization --How the particulate nature of matter affects it in many ways. Week 10 - Rocks, Minerals, and Crystals --The chemical nature of geology. **Class Format** This is a flexible schedule class with NO live meetings. Monday --Prerecorded instructional videos will be posted by 8am (MST) each Monday. Videos will be 8-20 minutes in length. Wednesday --By Wednesday of each week, each student will need to post in the classroom a short written or video response to the video, as well as a picture of the entry they made in their science journal about that weeks topic. Friday --In addition, students will also be required to complete a small homework assignment by Friday. These assignments will be posted at the same time as the instructional videos on Mondays, so students will have the entire week to work on them. Don't wait until the last minute! For more on the homework, see the homework section below.

Notebook of choice to be used as a science journal. Please find a journal that plays to their unique needs and/or strengths. Past students have used art journals with blank pages, standard wide or college ruled spiral notebooks, and primary composition journals in which the top of the page is blank and the bottom has handwriting lined space. Each of these type of notebooks are widely available and generally cost $1-5. Please let me know if you have any questions.
