Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Join us as we explore the control center for your whole body, the brain! This unique and complex organ has many roles. It controls your thoughts, breathing, movement, emotions and more! We will learn about the basic functions of the different parts of the brain, and some basic information about the development and growth of brain cells. Throughout the class discussion we will ask and answer our questions about this curious control center. Lastly, we will use rice krisp cereal, marshmallows, licorice and food coloring, to make our model of the brain. Classes are delivered in an engaging and student centered format.

-Students will be able to describe the different parts of the brain.
-Students will be able to make a model of the brain out of rice krisp cereal.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
-Learners use either a stove or a microwave to melt marshmallows. Please provide adequate supervision or ensure that your learner has the pertinent skills. -We also use food coloring which can be messy so please prepare accordingly.
Supply List
-4 cups of puffed rice cereal such as rice krispie cereal.
-20 regular marshmallows or equivalent.
-1.5 tablespoons butter
-Food coloring
-Twizzlers to decorate. Pull and tear variety are easy to use. 
-Several mixing bowls
-Mixing spoons
-A plate for your final rice krispie brain

Hello! My name is Sara and I am looking forward to working with your child! I teach Art, History, Science and Math to children who are 6-12 years old. I am from the United States and I have a master's degree in Special Education from Arizona State University.
