Class Experience

In this multi-curricular class, students will combine reading, writing, and crafts to enhance their learning! Students will listen to a poem that uses metaphors to describe the different colors of the rainbow, and be guided through a brainstorming session of what each color represents for them! While students decide which color they would like to focus on for their own poem, they will complete a guided craft to make a rainbow sun-catcher. To finish the class, students will use the ideas they brainstormed collectively to write a poem on one color using metaphors.

Learning Goals

Students will be able to:
- Define a metaphor
- Create metaphors for different colors
- Write a poem using metaphors (according to age/ability)

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a current university student studying Elementary Education and French at Calvin University in Michigan. I am passionate about helping improve literacy in students by strengthening their reading and writing capabilities and love to help students on their language arts journey. In the summer months I work as an arts and crafts and fine arts teacher at a residential camp, where I work with students on exploring art and help them in creating masterpieces. I believe that every child is capable of anything they set their mind to with guidance, patience, and positive encouragement. It is my goal that students walk away from my classes feeling more confident in themselves and their abilities! When I am not writing lesson plans you can find me playing the piano or petting any dog I can!
*Note: I am currently in my final year at University and as a result, there may be delays in responses to messages or class requests. Please let me know if your message is urgent and I will do my best to respond timely! Thank you for your understanding!*
