Class Experience

Welcome to a space where connections flourish with guidance and support. Join us for a laid-back session that follows this engaging format:

Meet and Greet: Let's start with a warm hello, check-in, and a friendly welcome to any newcomers!

Share Time: This is the perfect opportunity for everyone who would like, to exchange news and information with the group, or do you have something you'd like to show us?

Creative Coloring: This is optional, and you may wish to be completing a puzzle, a rubiks cube or stroking a pet! Coloring may be with markers/pencils, on a tablet, coloring sheets or whatever works for you!

Building Connections: Strengthening bonds and friendships.
Listening Skills: Practicing respectful turn-taking while hearing others.
Respect: Nurturing an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Learning Adventures: Embarking on exciting journeys of discovery.

Coloring offers a soothing and shared activity that sparks conversations and eases any initial shyness. It's a wonderful icebreaker, especially at the start, allowing you to focus your attention while reducing anxiety. When combined with special interests, coloring becomes an excellent conversation starter.

Flexibility is my mantra, tailoring each session to the group's unique needs. Parents are encouraged to reach out in advance, sharing valuable insights to help me provide tailored support that matches your child's communication style and learning preferences. This class is a chance for learners to connect, uncover common passions, and explore new interests. Whether or not a learner has an autism diagnosis, they're all welcome. We extend a warm invitation to girls, non-binary learners, and anyone who might find social interactions a bit challenging. Let's create an environment where everyone thrives!

I am a secondary stage teacher, the training of which includes specific instruction and practical experience of special education. In my current role I run social skills sessions during unstructured times of the day for children with a variety of needs, including ASD (autism spectrum disorder).
In addition to this I have two children both under assessment for autism. In the path to supporting my teenage children through this process I have always looked for ways to encourage them in making safe and meaningful connections with other young people.
