Description
Class Experience
Students will be introduced to the following scientific concepts: - Photons as tiny units of radiated electromagnetic energy - How photons are released by atoms as electrons change energy levels - The dual aspects of photons as both particle and wave - How the sun emits photons that provide essential energy for earth's life forms - The visible light spectrum - The electromagnetic radiation spectrum, from large radio waves to tiny gamma waves
We're dedicated to introducing young students to the amazing world of quantum physics, technological innovation and design! We've been offering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) classes and creating educational materials for students of all ages for over 15 years. We're excited to share this course content with more students through Outschool.
No required homework assigned, but students will be given suggestion for further exploration.
1 file available upon enrollmentA handout on photons and the Electromagnetic Spectrum will be provided. Optionally, students can bring a prism (if they have one available) to class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner progress will be assessed through class participation and a fun, humorous end-of-class quiz.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
