Description
Class Experience
The lesson content will depend a lot on the level of the student. I make sure the student has proper fundamentals in place, such as proper hand placement, mouth piece usage, reed care. Then I will asses the competency with sight reading, knowing which notes in written music correspond with which fingering on the instrument. Lessons will also cover how to achieve a good tone on the sax. We will address the boring exercises required to build muscle stamina in the lips that help to get good...
Goals are to become proficient in sight reading. To produce a good tone. To develop finger dexterity. Eventually learn to apply scale knowledge to improvisation.
Homework! This is just daily practicing the instrument. During my best years, I played saxophone 2 or more hours a day. It is a lot of repetition, training the coordination of the brain, thoughts, and fingers. Like any physical activity, it just takes time and practice.
If needed, I can provide a fingering chart. Blank music notation paper can be very useful.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Listen to Phil Woods, Michael Brecker, David Sanborn, Charlie Parker, Eric Marienthal, John Harle.
