Learners will be informally assessed on demonstration of basic piano skills.Class Experience
This course consists of 6 piano lessons based on a downloadable piano music. Primer Part 2 will focus on the right hand and left hand C positions. Learners will identify notes on the staff, note names, and note duration as they learn to read music. Learners will learn at least 5 songs and complete 2 activity sheets. Learners should practice between classes to improve their skills. It would be helpful if the learner has basic reading skills and the ability to wait and listen while other learners perform as much learning comes from listening. While it is not required, individual playing will be optional throughout this course. PLEASE NOTE: It is usually best to start with Part 1, but if you would like to start with this section, please contact the teacher and let her know that your learner has prior knowledge of right hand C position playing. To be successful in this class, learners should have completed part 1 or have prior knowledge of the right hand C position notes. Each class follows the basic outline below: 1. Opening - Welcome 2. Skill - Review skills and songs from previous week 3. Lesson - Learn new songs, Learn related music terms and symbols, Start activity sheets 4. Closing - Discuss practice assignments for the next class, Learners play additional songs for class as time allows Throughout the lesson learners will be presented with visuals on the screen and a view of the teacher's piano. Learners will be guided through learning each song as they listen, repeat and put the song together through small steps. Learners will be given many opportunities to play for the class during the lesson. Each week videos will be posted to the Outschool classroom to assist with practice between classes. On zoom, please make sure that Original Sound for Musicians is "On" otherwise Zoom will suppress the piano as noise and we will not be able to hear the music.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hello! My name is Mrs. McArthur and I teach MUSIC! I am a Texas certified all-level music teacher with 29 years of teaching experience, 26 years in public schools and 3 years online and homeschool experience. I have taught preschool through eighth grade General Music and Choir classes. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal music from Oklahoma Baptist University.
I believe that every learner can make music! Learners need a variety of experiences to learn music skills, including visual, aural and kinesthetic. Given sequential steps, students can achieve well beyond the expectations. When creativity is modeled, learners discover that making mistakes improves music. Learners need opportunities to be creative with choices so they can create on their own terms and interests. By making connections to science, social studies, math and beyond, students learn that subjects don’t exist in isolation. Music is the universal language and learners deserve a chance to explore the world through a musical lens!
