The Internet can be wonderful for kids. They can use it to research school reports, communicate with teachers and other kids, and play interactive games. But online access also comes with risks, like inappropriate content, cyber bullying, and online predators. Using apps and websites where kids interact, predators may pose as a child or teen looking to make a new friend. They might prod the child to exchange personal information, such as address and phone number, or encourage kids to call them, seeing their phone number via caller ID. This course will help your child learn the difference between what's OK to share and what's best left private. The class will meet three times for one week. Topics Include Day 1 How to protect your identity and computer - Logging on to the internet - A great tool - Introduction to malware - How do you know if the link is from a trusted source? - Downloading don'ts - Is your computer a ‘clean’ machine? Day 2 Online safety and smart habits - Being smart online - Social networks - Stranger danger - What is cyber bullying and how to stop it? - Gaming safely - Keep it private - Safe surfing - Citizens of the internet - Guidelines to follow Day 3 - Review topics from day 1 and 2 - Scenarios for Discussion - Quiz My goal is to help kids practice smart habits, stay safe online and teach them how to protect their identities and computer, while engaging them in creative and critical thinking to explore the concepts behind each tip. The course will include interactive activities, checklists, scenarios for discussion and a quiz. If you are interested in this course but the times listed do not work for your schedule, feel free to request a time that works for you! I will do my best to open a section that works for your schedule. Thank you!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Parents and Guardians!
My name is Nehal Jebur and I'm from Vancouver, Canada! I have my Masters degree in Cyber Security from the University of Liverpool, a Bachelors degree in Information Technology from Kwantlen Polytechnic University, a Diploma in Computer Science from Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate from the International TEFL Academy.
I have over 12 years of experience teaching children in daycare schools ages 1-15. I plan lessons and implement a learning plan by preparing an interesting learning environment for the children. I want teaching to enable practical skills in my students that allow them to grow individually and give them new career opportunities. I believe that when we have fun, learning is easy, so I make all lessons easy and interactive!
I offer a variety of classes as I enjoy any opportunity to be creative and expand on many subjects of interest! Contact me anytime to share any classes you would like me teach, for classes you really wanted to take, but didn't fit your schedule, or any feedback.
Thank you for your time and I can't wait to meet your child!
- Ms. Nehal
