25 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
I will teach about three different protocol for internet safety, using an illustrated slide show. The safety points will center around: 1) Don't share private information. 2) Tell someone if something on the internet makes you feel uncomfortable. 3) Don't download anything without permission. I use an interactive teaching style, including students in on the discussion as much as possible. After systematically going through the material, I go through a review. Then, we go through several scenarios to practice the information, and make sure that students have a solid understanding.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
This class will mention predatory behavior in general terms. Students will be told that some people on the internet might want to take advantage of them, or even harm them. While details about identity theft or online adult predators are left vague, the topic is nonetheless a dark one, and parents should be prepared to check in with their child after the class.
Language of Instruction
English
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a classroom teacher for more than a decade. My post-graduate work focussed largely on how to weave important topics, such as character education, emotional awareness, mentorship, and role-modeling, etc., into the standard educational curriculum.
