This is a flexible schedule writing class for Pokemon fans who want to dive deep into their favorite Pokemon! Outschoolers have the opportunity to learn more about a topic that interests them by writing a research paper —while the focus of the project is the creation of a research paper, the step-by-step instruction for completing the report focuses entirely on the writing process. And it's Pokemon! Week One: Outschoolers choose a topic to research, gather resources, and take notes — critical prewriting steps! Interactive Class Discussion: Share your topic with the class! Good -vs- Bad Sources Week Two Outschoolers review their notes and create an outline — organizing their work and getting their thoughts down on paper. Interactive Class Activity: Escape Room: The Research Process! Week Three Outschoolers review the outline to write a rough draft of their report — focusing on the content of the report. Interactive Class Discussion: Ideas for publishing our research papers — Let's get creative! Week Four Outschoolers write their final drafts! Celebrate our accomplishments with a flex class gallery walk. Interactive Class Activity: Tour our Interactive Pokemon Research Project Gallery Walk! Together, within the Outschool classroom, students will master the entire research process. This class employs the use of Modeled Writing. Modeled writing provides real-world writing explanations for learners by demonstrating how writers actually go about constructing texts. This flexible scheduled class is a great fit for Pokemon-Fan who is an emerging/reluctant writer and confident writer as well. Prior knowledge of research and report writing is helpful, but not necessary, as these are skills we will be working on within our sessions. With this flexible schedule class, your student will: 1. Master Presenting an Experience →Report on a topic or text, tell a story, or recount an experience. Interaction: Within our classroom, we hold group discussions, participate in group escape rooms, and fun class bonding activities (think games!) Students will submit brainstorming ideas, comment on fellow students' ideas, ask questions and hold writing instruction discussions with the teacher and fellow classmates. Students will use the Outschool classroom posting feature for submitting their required discussion topics. Posting Time: Our Outschool classroom is used during this flex class. Each video lesson is posted by 8 am (EST) Monday every week. Classroom discussion and supplemental postings are made Tuesday and Wednesday during our flexible schedule class. Thursdays and Fridays will focus on themed activities and workdays. Students should submit their work by Friday each week. Final reports are due on Friday of week four.
