Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 12
This one-on-one tutoring class will be customized to the student's needs. Students do not need to have taken the PSAT, ACT, or SAT. However, if they have, it would be helpful to know their scores.

For the ACT English and PSAT/SAT writing and language portion, we will focus on highly-tested skills. This will include punctuation (commas, semicolons, dashes, and colons) as well as verb tense, subject/verb agreement, parallel structure, etc. Students will also learn tips to help with word choice and logical reasoning questions.

For the reading section, students will work on fiction and nonfiction passages, focusing on major concepts such as theme, function, and purpose. We will also discuss how to answer "word in context" questions.

Students will be provided with links to practice passages during the session that they can access on their device. Students will have time to answer the questions and then they will review the answers with the teacher, focusing on understanding the correct answer rationales. Additionally, the teacher may use the screen share option to review specific questions or concepts.

Sample Class Breakdown (40 minutes)
Introduction of the lesson and test-taking reminders (3-5 minutes)
Practice passage (10 minutes)
Answer review (5-10 minutes)
Additional practice questions based on results or a second practice passage and review (15-20 minutes)

NOTE: The PSAT and SAT are changing to a digital format. As this change happens, I will create instruction based on which format of the test the student is taking. For example, if students are taking the paper test in 2023, we will focus on those practice passages. If they are taking the adaptive digital test format for 2024, we will focus on those passages. If possible, please let me know when you sign up which version of the test you are taking. Thanks!
