Class Experience

This course consists of 6 "traditional style" piano lessons based on the book Faber Piano Adventures Level 2B. Part 4 covers the end of unit 5 through unit 7. Each learner will need a copy of this book for the class. Throughout this course learners will focus on reading notes and interpreting music symbols. Learners will be presented with visuals of the songs as well as a keyboard visual to facilitate understanding throughout the lesson. During each class, learners will review music theory with games and activities, review previous songs and terms, learn a new song, and demonstrate good piano playing technique. Learners will learn up to 5 songs throughout this course.

Learners should practice between classes to improve their skills and prepare for class.

Music theory in this course includes musical form, ledger lines, and eighth rests.

This course is designed to follow level 2B part 3 piano instruction. Learners should know how to play chords, and recognize intervals. Learners should be able to play songs with both hands in a variety of positions and out of position.

Listed below is an concept outline for the course. The pacing of this course may be adjusted as needed.

Final Performances

While it is not required, individual playing will help learners receive positive feedback to facilitate progress. Learners are encouraged to respond positively when others play to facilitate a safe performance space.

Video demonstrations and other resources may be posted to the classroom to assist with practice between classes.

Arranging your device to show your hands, keeping your video on during class and practicing between classes will optimize learning. Please check you audio settings to ensure that original sound is on to prevent Zoom from suppressing the piano as noise.

Learning Goals

The learner will read and play notes on the treble staff and bass staff in major and minor keys.

Hello! My name is Mrs. McArthur and I teach MUSIC! I am a Texas certified all-level music teacher with 29 years of teaching experience, 26 years in public schools and 3 years online and homeschool experience. I have taught preschool through eighth grade General Music and Choir classes. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal music from Oklahoma Baptist University.

I believe that every learner can make music! Learners need a variety of experiences to learn music skills, including visual, aural and kinesthetic. Given sequential steps, students can achieve well beyond the expectations. When creativity is modeled, learners discover that making mistakes improves music. Learners need opportunities to be creative with choices so they can create on their own terms and interests. By making connections to science, social studies, math and beyond, students learn that subjects don’t exist in isolation. Music is the universal language and learners deserve a chance to explore the world through a musical lens!
