Beginner Level
On going session that is personalized to meet the needs of every reader. Tutoring sessions feature research-based instruction aligned to the science of reading. Sessions will teach students the building blocks to be a skilled reader. Depending on the students' reading level session topics will include: -letter name recognition -letter sound correspondence (based on student need/reading screener will determine specific needs of student) -blending and decoding (turning sounds into words) -encoding (spelling) The first session at The Literacy Gym will consist of a short reading screener to determine the needs of the student. A personalized instructional path will be designed to support each student with the essential skills needed to be a successful reader. The Literacy Gym sessions are best suited for beginning readers (students in grades K-2) that struggle with the building blocks of readings: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension. Instruction at The Literacy is gun, engaging, and interactive to build a love for reading. Using games and interactive activities to learn how to read allows students to enjoy learning to read! With the positive and uplifting environment, students feel encouraged and empowered to be a skilled, successful reader. All instruction is provided by Lauren, who has over 10 years of classroom experience in grades K-2 and holds a Master's degree in Special Education. Curriculum utilized during The Literacy Gym session is aligned to the science of reading research and follows the structured literacy pathway.

The Literacy Gym sessions are facilitated by Lauren, who holds a Master's degree in special education and over 10 years of teaching experience. With classroom experience teaching kindergarten, first, and second grades, as well as specialized knowledge in special education, I've honed my skills in catering to a wide range of learners' needs. I am passionate about closing reading gaps for beginning readers and strive to guide and support struggling readers to master new skills and build them into confident readers.
My impact extends beyond the classroom, as I’ve also delved into training instructors on the science of reading. Through this work, I've empowered fellow educators with evidence-based instructional strategies aligned with the science of reading.
