Sessions will teach students the building blocks to be a skilled reader. Depending on the students' reading level session topics will include: -letter name recognition -letter sound correspondence (based on student need/reading screener will determine specific needs of student) -blending and decoding (turning sounds into words) -encoding (spelling) The first session at The Literacy Gym will consist of a short reading screener to determine the needs of the student. A personalized instructional path will be designed to support each student with the essential skills needed to be a successful reader. The Literacy Gym sessions are best suited for beginning readers (students in grades K-2) that struggle with the building blocks of readings: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension. Teacher expertise and credentials
Reading, similar to exercising, requires consistent practice to see significant benefits. It’s important to incorporate daily reading routines to build critical reading skills! The Literacy Gym is proud to offer individual and group sessions using research-based and evidence-based instructional approaches for the building blocks of reading.
The Literacy Gym sessions are facilitated by Lauren, who holds a Master's degree in special education and over 10 years of teaching experience. With classroom experience teaching kindergarten, first, and second grades, as well as specialized knowledge in special education, I've honed my skills in catering to a wide range of learners' needs. I am passionate about closing reading gaps for beginning readers and strive to guide and support struggling readers to master new skills and build them into confident readers.
My impact extends beyond the classroom, as I’ve also delved into training instructors on the science of reading. Through this work, I've empowered fellow educators with evidence-based instructional strategies aligned with the science of reading.
I firmly believe that every student holds the potential to become a proficient reader through evidence-based explicit instruction and consistent practice. I eagerly anticipate witnessing your child's journey as they develop into confident readers, enriching their minds through the joy of reading.
Exercise your brain, let's read!
