Peppermint Candy Chemistry: Dissolving Christmas Candy With Science! (Ages 3-6)
Class experience
NOTE: This is a very popular class during the holiday season but can be done year round using peppermint candies OR candy canes in order to make this class accessible year round! Introductions: We will begin by introducing ourselves to our fellow classmates. Discussion: What do you think is going to happen to the peppermint candies when we place them in the hot water? What about the oil? The cold water? The vinegar? What do you think the word dissolve means? Which container do you think...
Learners will learn new vocabulary such as the word dissolve. Learners will gain a better understanding on how to conduct experiments. Learners will gain a better understanding on how to make scientific observations.
Required Materials: 4 clear containers (any clear ones will do as long as you can see from the side) Peppermint candies OR candy canes Cooking oil White distilled vinegar Hot water Cold water Optional bonus liquid of their choice for a 5th container.
Parents will need to assist their learners in pouring the hot water into the container. This water will need to be hot in order for the experiment to work properly.
