Class Experience

In this class, we will work together to learn the steps needed to create each portion of our adorable miniature sculptures. Different live camera views will be used to show each step of the way, as we work together. We will condition, cut, roll and form our pieces. Then we will prepare our pieces to be baked after class is over. I will go over how to convert our creations into jewelry, which is an optional step the students may do. The supplies are listed below and are necessary to complete the project. I will go over how to lacquer the clay after baking if the students want a professional, glossy finished look.

Class #1 - Creating Jack and Sally. Converting to charms. Students will bake them after class or wait to bake them together after class #2.

Class #2 - Creating Zero and Oogie Boogie (plus potion bottles if time allows). Converting to charms. Students will bake them after class.

Supplies I used:
Polymer Bake Clay (I like to use Sculpey III Polymer Clay). *A little clay goes a LONG way in miniature sculpting!
Basic Sculpting tools, toothpick, dotting tool or ball tool for eye sockets/indents
A cutting tool (clay knife or anything that you are comfortable with using)
A non stick surface to work on (You can cover a piece of cardboard with parchment paper and tape it to the bottom…that works)
A small rolling pin or paintbrush handle or anything smooth to roll out small pieces of clay.
Variety of colors of polymer clay (white, black, green, blue, red, orange)... I used Glow in the Dark clay for Zero!
Ultra Fine Point "Sharpie" permanent marker (optional for small details)
Eye pins (optional, to turn into charms before baking)

OPTIONAL: If using baked clay:
Clear Water based gloss glaze for after baking (I use Sculpey Gloss Glaze).

Other Details

Parental Guidance
**Polymer clay requires baking according to the package direction. (Generally ~275 °F/130 °C, depending on your brand of clay). You may do this after class. Parental help is necessary.
