Class Experience

Students design and build a city using code through Minecraft Education Edition. Students will apply their programming skills to construct a functional city in Minecraft with the Microsoft MakeCode software. The class will discuss the integral components of a city, and students will create programs to realize the components in their own city. During each session, students will build a portion of the city through coding and testing. The culminating project will be the student's own awesome unique Minecraft city.

Learning Goals
• Computer coding/programming features:
-Event & event handlers
-Absolute and relative positions
-Variables
-Iteration
-Conditionals
-Functions
-Arrays
• Merge multiple types of coding features to create one outcome to complete a task.
• Understand how code can be used to create large-scale actions that would manually take longer.
• Recognize more than one way to achieve the same result through code.
• Merge mathematics with code to create calculated in-game actions.
• Focus on the design aspect and merging this with code for a unique outcome, showing that code is commanded by design first.
