In level 3 of Scratch for Kids, students use extension blocks to create advanced projects with new features and program a micro:bit device to interact with their projects. Micro:bit is a pocket-sized, affordable, beginner-friendly programmable computer that is compatible with Scratch. Students love using micro:bit as a game controller and programming the LED display to show images and text. The micro:bit’s motion sensing capabilities detect movement, tilts, and shakes, allowing students to create unique interactive motion games. All lessons are project-based, with eight fun guided projects that allow students to practice new programming concepts. All students will be asked to apply what they’ve learned to create a final project of their own design which will be presented on the last day of class. There will be some reinforcement quizzes for students to complete after lessons, along with review games that will be played in the final class meetings to ensure students remember material and are prepared to take the next steps in their programming adventures. For a week to week program check out the syllabus.
Learning Goals
In this online live course, students will expand on their Scratch programming skills, make games and solve programming problems, and learn to use a programmable micro:bit to add a hardware component to their Scratch creations.
