In this Flipped Learning 10 Week Course, Students will develop reading comprehension skill, a stronger vocabulary, increase fluency, and work on core writing elements in a Novel Study by Lois Lowry "The Giver".

Introduction to Dystopian Literature and Setting the Stage
Discuss the concept of dystopia and its characteristics. Introduce "The Giver" and its author, Lois Lowry. Read Chapters 1-3 and analyze the setting, characters, and initial conflicts. Assign reading journal entries focusing on initial impressions and predictions.

Reading: Students will actively engage in discussions about the text.
They will analyze characters in the stories and discuss character development.

They will review setting, plots, themes, lessons, and symbolism in details, provide explanations, and begin to analyse text.  Students will gain a detailed understanding through games, activities, and discussions.  

Vocabulary:  Students will be introduced to new vocabulary and gain an understanding of grammar through this complex study.

Homework Offered
An assignment will be given and students MUST complete it before the class to include generally a presentation and a reading.
