Students will practice the subtle tricks of the trade and explore puppetry performance through live meetings, performances, and watching specific videos. We will cover the importance of voice acting, puppet manipulation and techniques as well as some simple and affordable ways to craft a puppet. In week one we dive into the importance of creating a believable character, the specifics of voice characterization, and the manipulation of cadence. Students begin simple performance. In week two we examine the history and evolution of puppetry, spot lighting ground breaking creators and performers along the way and discussing their contributions. In week three the class begins more advanced puppetry performance and methods. The class will take part in the live meeting as their puppet character. We will interact through puppetry. Week four explores puppetry construction and assorted types of puppets. Demonstrations are shared.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to create a convincing character voice, how to perform unique characters, and how to capture an audience utilizing their puppet performance.

Supply List
Puppet crafting materials are suggested but not required. Puppet building will be covered with an emphasis on thinking outside of the box to create a unique character. A puppet could be a paper bag or gym sock with googely eyes glued on.
