Students will practice the subtle tricks of the trade and explore puppetry performance through live meetings, performances, and watching specific videos. We will cover the importance of voice acting, puppet manipulation and techniques as well as some simple and affordable ways to craft a puppet. In week one we dive into the importance of creating a believable character, the specifics of voice characterization, and the manipulation of cadence. Students begin simple performance. Students will learn to create a convincing character voice, how to perform unique characters, and how to capture an audience utilizing their puppet performance.
I have performed puppetry for the last decade, worked to entertain for the city of Villa Rica, Ga. and taught puppetry for children's ministries as well as performing puppetry within the haunted attraction industry.
Voice performance and puppetry performance must be practiced and recorded.
1 file available upon enrollmentPuppet crafting materials are suggested but not required. Puppet building will be covered with an emphasis on thinking outside of the box to create a unique character. A puppet could be a paper bag or gym sock with googely eyes glued on.
Performances will be discussed, given constructive critiques, and given self-analysis.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
