What's included

Class Experience

This asynchronous (flex) class will help your child master math fundamentals (adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing/ place value, and ordering numbers).

Your child will follow along as I explain the steps to determine place value, order numbers and perform basic math operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide) through deeper understanding of concepts, the need for memorization, and the ability to perform operations quickly. Explanations and examples will be provided on how we need and use math in our everyday lives. Your child will engage in group discussions, perform hands-on activities and complete worksheets via our Outschool classroom and messaging platform. All material will be provided in our Outschool classroom (worksheets, graphic organizers, PDF files, slides).

Skills/Strategies include:
understanding the value of a number (place value)
determining multiple ways to show the value of a number (ie: 100, 10x10, 110-10, 90+10)
ordering numbers (2-4 digits) (10,20,30, 123,165,198, 2018, 2274, 2899, 2988)
adding/subtracting (fact families, adding quickly, memorizing addition facts)
multiplying/dividing (memorizing times tables, using grids, arrays, multiple methods to multiply/divide)
the relationship between adding/subtracting, multiplying, dividing (ie: multiplication = repeated addition)

The goal of this course is to reinforce and/or reteach the basics of math so that your learner can master those skills, and use that knowledge to perform more complex tasks.

Classroom assignments and postings (discussions/activities) will be made by 9:00 a.m. EST. on the first day of class each week during our flexible schedule course. (For example, if the course begins on a Tuesday, postings will be available by 9:00 a.m. EST each Tuesday during the course.)
Individual feedback, submissions, assignments and homework will be provided via the Outschool messaging platform.

Every child has the ability to learn! When their individual learning style is utilized and they are engaged, they begin to achieve academic success. This leads to confidence and a love of learning. That is my hope for each and every one of my learners.
I am the proud mother of two sons who are currently in college. I love spending my free time with family and friends, and I absolutely love the outdoors. One of my favorite things to do is to go horseback riding.
I look forward to meeting you and working with your child. Thank you so much for stopping by.
