Do you or your children know what to do in case of a fire at home? Does your family have a plan that everyone knows? In today's class, we will be talking about things that you should have for a fire safety plan. The students will practice different parts of a plan, such as calling 911, going through the steps of evacuating, and different ways to remain calm. I will be teaching the students, why it is important to have a plan, who should know the plan, and what you should do to be...
After this class, students will walk away with the knowledge of what to do in case of a fire emergency. They will learn, how to evacuate, where to go, where not to go, who to call, how to call, and the most important job for them. They will be provided with a Family Fire Plan before class and will be able to sit down with parents or guardians and make their own. Items on the Family Fire Plan are Meeting Place, Home address, Home phone number or their own cell phone number. They will have blanks to fill out and the task of asking for a family meeting after our class. Family's should be able to sit down together and discuss items on the Family Fire Plan and fill it out for their own peace of mind.
There is no homework for this class. I would really love it if every family took the time to make a family fire plan of their own. Being prepared saves lives !

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be asked questions about what they are learning, such as - "Where should you go if there is smoke in your house?" or "Do you go back into the house ever?". Informal assessments like open-ended questions and acting out steps they learn will be made throughout the lesson.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class is about fire safety so the topic of house fire and smoke will be discussed in an age-appropriate way. There will be no scary stories about fires and no scare tactics used. This class is simply to prepare the students and their families.
