Class Experience

This will be a fun, interactive course where your child can ask questions, practice, and learn. We will learn the basics of reading music and music theory while leaning to play the piano. We will start on proper technique, and we will continue to make sure that we sit correctly and we keep our hands in a nice C shape which will help us throughout our piano journey. We will practice numbering our fingers which is very important for reading music. After, we will start learning music theory. We will really start to get a good grip on the basics of reading music, distinguishing between quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes and their meanings. We will become very familiar with keeping rhythm. We will also learn the notes on the piano and how to find them, as well as learning how to distinguish between the different dynamics and how loud to play (forte, mezzo forte, and piano). At the end of the class, we will put into practice what we have learned by trying to play some new songs! I am basing my curriculum of of Piano Adventure books, which I ask that each parent to get for their child for this class.
Learning Goals
First, students will learn how to sit properly at the piano, and next, go on to how and where to put their hands on the keys. From there we will start with some basics in reading music, and putting it all together to play songs. As the course continues, we will learn how to read music more extensively and move on to playing more complicated songs.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I love music. From a young age, I took piano lessons, and then from there moved on to learning many other instruments. Throughout school I played the oboe, saxophone, and flute. Music still plays a huge role in my life, as it gives me a way to express myself. I have also taught different classes before, but this one really excites me because I am very passionate about it, and teaching piano is my favorite job I've ever had. I think reading and playing music is so important, and it is becoming a lost art. I would love to help children come to love music like I do, and develop this skill that will stick with them throughout their life.
