WHAT IS THIS CLASS? In my weekly Creativity Club, we play "The Drawing Game" every 13 weeks, and it's always such a hoot that I thought it deserved to be its own class! This is a game - not an art lesson - I won't be teaching your kids how to draw anything. What I'll be doing is facilitating a really fun drawing activity to stretch kids' imaginations! As one of my students recently said to me after we played it (she's now played it a few times): "I always love doing this. It's always such a fun creative challenge!" We should ideally have at least 3 students participating to make this really fun. We could maybe squeak by with 2 with me as the third, but 3 students is better! The game relies on a simple premise - the whole class will be drawing the same things, but doing it in their very own way, with everyone hiding their papers from each other and sharing our creations at the end of class so we can appreciate just how amazingly different our imaginations are. The things that we actually draw will change with every class meeting, based on student input, so even if a learner comes every week, they'll never be asked to draw the same thing twice! I'll start the class with a thorough explanation and demonstration of the simple rules for any new students (and at the same time, I'll pose a quick challenge for those who already know the rules to occupy them during that time). We'll then draw together, and take the last 5-10 minutes to share our wild and silly creations. Laughter almost always guaranteed :) The only materials needed are: -drawing paper -things to draw and color with EVERY SINGLE WEEK the format will be exactly the same - I will do an intro to review the rules for new students; we will play the game, based on student ideas; we will share our finished artwork. But as mentioned above, even though the format of the game is always the same, the class will be different every week because the subjects we will be drawing will change week-to-week based on student ideas. And I won't be able to tell you what those ideas are, because they're coming from students! That's what makes the game so much fun, and such a creative challenge - the element of the unexpected! OUTSCHOOL POLICY REMINDERS: -if you are registering siblings, each learner must be enrolled separately. For this particular class it would be best if they each had their own space to work in because drawing takes a lot of table space and they might not both fit on camera! -I require student cameras to be on for verification at the beginning of class, and prefer students keep them as it's easier to have discussions with faces rather than boxes, and of course they'll be sharing their work (hopefully!) at the end! Please reach out to me with any questions....I hope you will join me for this exploration!
