Class Experience

Hello Parents! In this course, lessons are structured to incorporate fun activities such as songs, games, listening-and-identifying exercises, air-printing, tracing, matching letters to sounds. Learners will have fun being introduced to all 26 letters of the alphabet and their sounds. Each class we will cover 1 alphabet letter, (or in other words) 3 letters per week. Learners will review previously learned letters each class. They will be encouraged, praised and motivated to learn English! This will help boost their confidence in the classroom! You will receive worksheets for practice! Upon completion your child will receive an attractive certificate of achievement to commemorate their successful journey!

In these upcoming classes, your child will learn, pronounce, practice printing and reading English focusing on the alphabet, phonics, high-frequency and sight words, vowels, consonants and numbers! They will learn the sound of each letter and how to blend with other letters to make words! Next, learners will be introduced to "word families" - these are words that share a pattern and may have the same last combinations of letters in them, for example: at, cat, hat, and fat are a family of words with the "at" sound. These words are also known as rhyming words too! Learning to identify letters and pronounce sounds help give children confidence and are essential components that promote literacy.

Every week learners will be introduced to new letters and sound blends that will help them become successful readers. Learners need to understand that letters make sounds and sounds make words;. This is called decoding. Decoding is the ability to apply knowledge of letter and sound relationships, including knowledge of letter patterns. Words are recognized more quickly by children when learning to read using decoding skills. If a student does not learn this, they will try to memorize and guess at words. But, there are so many words in the English language guessing will only lead to frustration. Thus, it is very important students learn the sounds letters and blended letters make!
