Class Experience

In this class, students will learn the names of the colors in Spanish. We will be singing a song in Spanish about the colors. I will have toys/items of different colors and we'll review the English color words as they also learn the new Spanish color word. Students will color and glue together an ice cream cone from the attached worksheet and we'll share our cones at the end of class. Students will have plenty of opportunities for interaction. 
Students do not need any prior experience or knowledge for this class.

Learning Goals

Student will learn colors in Spanish. Student will learn how to say "Mi color favorito es___" (My favorite color is___).

Parental Guidance

Parental guidance is suggested to help your child with using glue for the ice cream cone activity.

Supply List

Please print a copy of the ice cream cone and scoops prior to class. Please have your child cut all parts prior to class. 
I sheet of  construction paper (any color)
Crayons, colored pencils, or markers
Glue

Hello! I am a fun, energetic and very positive human being. I am of Colombian descent and I'm fluent in Spanish. Ever since I was a little girl all I could think of was to become a teacher. Thanks to my amazing parents and their sacrifices, they made my dream come true and I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Florida International University. I'm also certified in ESOL, Special Education, and World Languages-Spanish. I taught Spanish, Math, Science, Reading/Language Arts, and Social Studies to grades 1-5 for 20 years. I also taught Spanish levels 1-4 in high school for two years. I love teaching children so much, that I also teach English to students in China through VIPKid.  

I feel that it is so important to reach all types of learners, which is why in my classes I'll have my students sing songs, play games, draw, and dance. That's how I also taught my older students in high school and they were very successful at learning Spanish. I also believe it's crucial to have high expectations of your students. Let them know that you believe in them, and that they can achieve anything they put their mind to. 

I believe learning other languages is so important and being bilingual or even multilingual is so crucial in today's world. My first teaching opportunity was given to me because I was fluent in Spanish. I want to share that with other learners, and share a love of another language. That's why in my classes, to start off, I'll be teaching the colors, then continue with other basics such as ABCs, numbers, feelings/emotions, days of the week, and months of the year. As for me, I've been learning Italian for the past year and a half. 

My husband and I own a handyman business where we build decks, porches, put up fences, paint, plant gardens, etc. It's hard work, but we are proud of how we grew our business from the ground up. Nothing that comes easy is worth having. I try to explain that and be a role model to my 13 year old daughter. As much as it sounds like a cliché, hard work pays off.
