In this fun course students will learn about crystal growth. We will discuss mixtures and supersaturated solutions. Class will begin with us preparing our supersaturated solutions. We will also create our molds in the the shape that we want our crystal ornaments to grow. Learners can create shapes like snowflakes, candy canes, stars, etc. It takes the ornaments 5 hours to completely grow. However, when we leave class our jars will be prepared. We will have also placed our crystal molds...
Borax Water Pencil or pen String or yarn - to suspend the ornament in the container Food coloring - optional Quart size jar - depending on the size of your mold you can get two in a jar For Shapes: Pipe cleaners - Choose the color that you want the ornament to be. This will enhance the food coloring color of the ornament Christmas cookie molds- will help to shape your pipe cleaners Another option: Coffee Filters and a plate - only makes snowflakes
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Learners will be boiling water and pouring this water into their containers. If parents feel that their learner needs assistance they are asked to assist.
