Class Experience

This one-time drawing class will cover different drawing methods and techniques for drawing MONSTERS! We will cover the different tools such as types of pencils, paper, and erasers. We will cover how to use your arm to draw different shapes. We will cover the different line weights and strokes used in the drawing. The class will cover basic shapes and how they can be changed into interesting monstrous details. We will be drawing fantastic beasts straight out of your student's imagination. The class will be taught through demonstration and follow-along. A projection screen will be set up to show a live drawing demonstration. The students can follow step by step and ask questions. I will be giving feedback on creative approaches and technique. The goal is to unlock your student's creative thinking and have fun, all while learning some fundamental tools for drawing and idea creation.

Learning Goals

Students will learn basic and midlevel drawing fundamentals. This will include line weight, shape building, shading techniques, and seeing creative solutions to simple shapes. Students will learn how to set up a drawing, the tools of drawing, how to trust their intuition, make mistakes and turn those mistakes into unique monster features.

Other Details

Supply List
Students will need to be ready with paper, pencil, and eraser. They can use printer paper or a sketch notebook. A number 2 school pencil is fine or they can bring a drawing set of pencils. A white, red, or gummy eraser will work.
External Resources

Sources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools. It might be kinda of fun for your learner to look up some cool monsters before the class to get some ideas and get those creative juices moving.

Hi everyone! I'm Nick. I'm a professional graphic designer and illustrator. I've had an interesting career, illustrating t-shirts for big stores, designing for a variety of companies across the world. I'd like to share some of my knowledge with you.

I believe fundamentals are key. I think understanding the basics and starting all work with a pencil and paper are essential to doing good work. I also really believe that it should be fun. Art is fun! Trying new things is fun! Making weird noises while you draw is fun!

I will be teaching basic drawing classes, idea creation classes, designs classes, typography classes, and illustration classes. I want to help you learn how to approach art from different angles, try weird stuff to get unexpected results.
