Intermediate Level
Once you know the basics of rap, the way to get better is to practice and get feedback. These 1-on-1 sessions will focus on deepening the learner's writing skills, helping them find their voice, and give them a safe space to experiment and express themselves fully. Our approach will be as follows: - Analyze exemplary works by the world's greatest rappers. - Complete targeted writing challenges focused on specific techniques. - Freestyle with an emphasis on entering the Flow State. - Experiment with vocal delivery to hone in on vocal range and sweet spot. - Learn generative techniques to overcome writers block. - Explore other interests to expand the learner's knowledge base. My Teaching Style Fast Paced and Reflective: I emphasize getting into the work in a fun quick way but then allowing for focused time to write a quiet, reflective way. Hands-on Learning: The only way to learn to rap, is to rap. I will introduce a set of skills each class then let everyone put them to use right away. Fun and Meaningful: Rap is an inherently fun medium and we emphasize the playfulness of it. At the same time, it is a medium used to express difficulty and struggle and students will be encouraged to explore their feelings to write something meaningful. Gentle and Expressive: Writing is a very personal experience and I treat my learners with care, approaching each interaction with empathy and kindness. I also let my performative nature shine through when presenting topics to keep them highly engaging.
Learning Goals
Critical Analysis: identify and critique the techniques used by the greatest writers.
Free Self-Expression: eliminate barriers to self expression by practicing a variety of generative writing approaches.
