Class Experience

Learn to Draw Characters and Poses

For this ongoing class we will practice drawing different poses for a mannequin like character. Learners can later add any features and outfits they like to build the character. (While following outschool community guidelines of course)
Depending on Learner’s confort zone we may focus on general body poses, anatomy or more specific and detailed areas like hands, face features, clothing details, textures, shading, etc.
I will adjust class instructions to the students pase.

-Students are encouraged to draw in different styles, including their own.

-The pose or poses we draw each day is discussed at the beginning of each class. This is a small class of up to 4 students, so everyone gets a chance pick what they would like to focus on for the class.

-Students are welcome to share some of their art experience, and bring in some of their previous art/sketches to share with the class, or to help explain what your goal may be.
If you are a new artist and choose not to show any previous art/sketches, you may share what are some of your art related interests, like drawing goals and what inspires you to make art.

Class structure:

At the beginning of each class we will make sure we have our materials ready, we will mainly use: pencil, paper and eraser.
To start we will discuss what are we going to focus on drawing (we may have more than one focus) is it going to be dynamic or static?
We will start drawing the guidelines first. Then continue to draw the pose/character.
I will provide step by step instructions in how to draw the chosen pose/character.
If we finish the first drawing early students have the option of drawing another similar pose/character on their own. I will be drawing another one as well. During this second time around, students can ask for more assistance with their drawing. Students may share and ask questions to other participants as well.
In the last portion of each meeting class we can discus any remaining questions about drawing character poses that students may have.

Materials: please bring:
-Pencil
-eraser
-Sheet of paper (I would recommend bringing more that one sheet of paper)
Optional:
-Fine tip marker or pen
-coloring media (color pencils/watercolor/markers)
-Digital Tablet with stylus (ex. iPad with stylus)

There is no experience required for you to join this course. I will adjust instructions to the learners’ pace.
Both experienced and new artist are welcome!
This is a small class of 1 to 4 learners, 50 minutes.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Ceres, I teach Watercolor and Drawing Classes.
My goal is for my students to develop a strong understanding on the fundamentals of watercolor and drawing while having fun painting and expressing themselves through art.
Students will gain understanding on working with these mediums by completing fun painting exercises, participating in step by step art pieces, as well as creating their own artwork after experimenting and learning new techniques!
I want to create a safe space where students can learn Art in a fun way. To be able to experiment, possibly make mistakes and learn from them, to then try again. The most I ask for my students is to try their best!
I have a total of 4 years teaching experience, where I’ve thought in after school program and summer camp, as well as teaching online. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts with concentration in teaching. I’m also bilingual in English and Spanish.
