What's included
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Learners will be encouraged to share and discuss their progress in class with each other. Also a great opportunity for peer assessment. Creating games in Roblox Studio allows learners experiment during class and outside class along their learning journey.Assessment
Formative assessment will take place through interacting with teacher through questions, and peer assessment from other students completing the same project.Class Experience
**This class has NO LIVE MEETINGS** The purpose of this course is to introduce the basic tools used in Roblox Studio. The method will be that learners will use these skills learnt to make their own platformer game often called an OBBY. Learners will be supported throughout this course with the main goal to give them freedom to be as creative as they can be. As a teacher I will explain the foundations so that they can apply these skills and tap into their creative minds. This is not a course for learners with experience in making their own games this is for learners that play Roblox but would like to make their own games and play with their friends. This is a Flex class format which allows learners to work independently with support of learning materials supplied by the teacher. While the lessons are recorded, it will be highly interactive i.e. resources will be interactive in the form of a PowerPoint, which will include notes and a short clip to explain the notes so learners can add meaning and understanding to the notes, and discussions about this will take place in the classroom. Learners will be expected to ask the teacher questions if they don't understand the notes or clips, after troubleshooting first with their peers or individual research. Teacher will respond to questions send to by email or in classroom on a daily basis to aid completion and understanding of course. Learners will be expected to show their work (ideally in class, but can be directly to me) by means of print screen, short clip or in writing. This will show time management and commitment which is a transferable skill that will be beneficial in later life. WEEK 1 This week learners will learn how to start a new project, deleting a baseplate, create a starting point, and familiarize themselves wit the camera movement. Learners will then start designing their initial game layout on a word document by adding 3-D shapes. WEEK 2 This week learners will use their initial design from previous week and sating adding the parts, they will have the opportunity to learn how to move the parts, resize the parts, rotate the parts , and most importantly anchoring the parts. WEEK 3 This week learners will add different shaped platforms, have the opportunity to learn how to color the materials as well as changing the material , and use the tool box tool provided to enhance their game. WEEK 4 This week learners will understand the importance of assessing their work through play testing which will allow for them to modify and correct mistakes, and then publish their game on their Roblox account and invite friends to try their game and critique it.
Learning Goals
Learners will gain knowledge of game development with Roblox. In particular, we will focus on game strategies, creating and modifying basic parts and learning how to publish and share finished games.
